AVImark vs. IDEXX Neo: Reporting Compared
By Diego Pittaluga, Founder / Product Lead at VetPulse
AVImark and IDEXX Neo target similar practice sizes — independent, often single-to-few-doctor clinics — but arrived at very different architectures. AVImark is an established on-premise system; IDEXX Neo was built cloud-first specifically for smaller practices wanting a simpler, browser-based system.
AVImark vs. IDEXX Neo reporting, at a glance
| Capability | AVImark | IDEXX Neo |
|---|---|---|
| Deployment | On-premise | Cloud |
| Real-time data | No (local database) | Yes |
| Best fit practice size | Any (mature, broad install base) | 1–2 doctors |
| Per-provider breakdown | Manual report config | Strains past 2–3 providers |
| Multi-location support | Limited | Limited |
The single-doctor case
For a genuinely single-doctor practice, IDEXX Neo's simpler, more modern interface is often the easier day-to-day experience, and its reporting is adequate for a practice that isn't trying to compare performance across multiple providers in the first place. AVImark's reporting depth doesn't offer much practical advantage at this scale, since there's nothing to compare a single doctor's numbers against.
Where it changes at 3+ providers
IDEXX Neo's built-in analytics were designed around a single practice's day-to-day operations rather than comparative analysis, and owners report that its reporting starts to strain once a third provider or a second location enters the picture. AVImark doesn't natively solve multi-provider comparison either, but its reporting menus at least offer more granular report configuration to approximate it manually, even if the process is more manual than either owner would prefer.
What this means for reporting either way
Whichever of the two a practice runs, neither natively answers the ongoing, owner-level question of whether the practice is getting healthier or not — that requires either regular manual export-and-spreadsheet work or a reporting layer built on top. VetPulse connects to both, along with AVImark, Cornerstone, and IDEXX Neo, and surfaces the same weekly briefing and real-time alerts regardless of which system sits underneath.
