What is AAHA/VMG Chart of Accounts?
A standardized general-ledger account structure for veterinary practices, jointly maintained and periodically updated by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) and Veterinary Management Groups (VMG). It exists so that revenue, cost-of-goods, and expense categories mean the same thing from one practice to the next, which is what makes cross-practice benchmarking (and AAHA- or VMG-run benchmarking programs specifically) possible in the first place. A practice whose internal chart of accounts has drifted from this standard can still benchmark against it, but only after mapping its own categories back onto the standard structure.
